Leaving Shoe Tuesday behind
Starting as a silly throwaway blog title one Tuesday back in 2007, Shoe Tuesday has grown to become a global phenomenon to rival the Bungee Disco, Skittle-Knack Karaoke or even Strawberry Buddhism.
I’d like to say thanks to everyone who enjoyed the wild ride we’ve had, and in particular to those readers from far and wide have joined in the fun by faxing, hand-delivering or psychically transmitting images of quirky shoes. If I didn’t use the images you sent then I’m very sorry about that- it doesn’t mean they weren’t interesting or funny, just that I couldn’t think of anything interesting or funny to say about them.
Whilst I will not be doing Shoe Tuesday any more, this does not mean the end.
No no my friend. For if we all keep Shoe Tuesday in our hearts, it will never truly die.
(Although just to be clear again, I am killing it)
============================================
For this last episode then, let’s all put our ST tie clips on one last time, do the ST hand-jive, wind up the music box and listen one more time to that Shoe Tuesday music.
Emma and I threw a bit of a leaving party at the weekend, and as you can imagine- everyone who is anyone was there (except WoAi, the enormous woofter). Turning out in full effect to support the cause was Jake Newby, resplendent in a tuxedo with genuine satin bowtie…and Feiyue trainers.
Nice work Jake, you terrible, terrible pikey.
It is however, hard to beat H’s (Dingle’s much much better half) contribution.
Check out these ever-so-respectful Michael Jackson tribute bootees.
What more fitting homage could there be to the King of Pop than a pair of Ugg boots plastered with a collage of his photos? Dressed up in a farmboy outfit, photoshopped into an image of Uncle Sam, headlines from the various sexual abuse court cases- it’s all here in glorious colour.
Rumours of similar footwear limited editions featuring Lady Diana, Mother Teresa and victims of the Holocaust could not be confirmed at the time of going to press.
And THAT’s the END OF THAT!
If you liked that, you might like...

i want a pair of the MJ UGG boots!
RIP Shoe Tuesday.
I’m sure most of us would have understood if you just said that you were done with Shoe Tuesday, there was no need to up and move out of the country in order to justify stopping these posts.
On second thought you’re probably right, leaving China is the only way. Otherwise within two weeks your fanatical shoe followers would have fired up the human flesh search engine and be tracking you down…
Blimey what poor nongmin did Jake steal those Fei Yue from? Give ‘em back Jake you big bully.
James surely my absence was more than compensated for by the presence of the big queen blogger princess herself making an appearance. No I don’t mean Dingle, I mean Shopgirl!
There was an odd moment during the Saturday 0093 Rock Shanghai CD release concert, in the middle of Top Floor Circus’ set, when I turned around and saw an exceedingly tall foreign man in a tuxedo in the middle of the mosh pit.
What was that about? (He may have been wearing beaten up Feiyues)
woai: and i went there because to see you :-( what a shame…
every time i saw Jake, he’s wearing Fei Yues – they are always the same pair aren’t they?
- Baltic, can’t picture you wearing them. A fancy booted ninja?!
Next Tuesday, I’ll wear a pair of ugly shoes in memory of.
It’s a truly sad, sad day, but I have to admit that ‘H’ has taken Shoe Tuesday out in style. Not too sure about Jake’s choice, but at least he ’suited up’.
I for one am going to miss Shoe Tuesday. I only joined the ST masses fairly recently, but as an avid fan I went through the archives and read every post – there have been so many classics. I have even become something of an ST watcher myself and now find it impossible to ignore the never-ending promenade of weird and wonderful shoes in Shanghai. Shoe Tuesday may be over, but it will live on in the hearts and feet of those it touched.
I just don’t know how Tuesday can return to it’s ‘pre-Shoe Tuesday’ level. Now it will just be an ordinary day again ;-(
gosh Kim C, no need to be so emotional. Are you allright?
I’m on Shoe Tuesday! I’m welling up…
And now that I’ve dried my eyes.
@WoAi – he’ll get them back when I’ve finished with them
@JeffWho – different pairs, all equally shabby
@T maybe I started a trend?
RIP Shoe Tuesday thanks for all the memories. A fine way to bow out with those beaten up Feiyues and the fantastic MJ boots. Tuesday’s just won’t the same!
Shopgirl – I don’t think life will ever be the same again!!!
It’s a good job Tommy is around on Caturdays or life would not be worth living ;-)
Aye, Jake was looking good, he’s all post-James Bond
Shopgirl – James will be very hurt. He was under the impression people were there that night because of him.
Farewell Shoe Tuesday and James.
Missed the do, me and the wife spend the weekend arguing which of us was less fevered and flu ridden and therefore going to the shops.
A good one to finish on though, those boots are a truly tasteless abomination. Sorry Dingle and H, but they make me want to be sick. More.
Pity cos those tights are very cool.
Sorry i never got the chance to have a drink with you beyond those 20 mins in YYT a couple of weeks ago. Have fun back in Manchestuh.
Andy, i now have an image of you in tartan tights burned into my brain. You f**ker.
Thanks for this great blog, and all the good advices. I have already bought the white hight top feiyues and plan to let your face drawn on them by one of the “great” bund caricaturists. I bet the Shanghai Museum will be interested in them.
oh btw It was always a great read and more than once I laughed out loud while reading your blog and after I wiped the tears out my eyes I had to recite what I just read to my baffled flat mates.
