Ren shan ren hai
I’ve been hitting all the tourist spots lately- they’re all very crowded.
Yu Yuan:
The ferry to Pudong
and Taikang Lu:
I’m thinking about having weekend in Hong Kong to get away from it all.
If you liked that, you might like...

Nice work mate. What camera were you using? Im off to Hong of the Kong next week to “get away from it all” Keep the podcasts a coming.
You may be making a “hahaha Hong Kong is also so very crowded joke” – but it’s different down there. There’s more personal space, better personal hygene and people apologize when they bump into you . . . for the most part. And people usually allow you to get off the subway first and queue and they’re only really rude because they’re trying to get somewhere in a hurry, not because they’re inconsiderate boobs.
It makes a difference.
You call that a ren hai? I took this at Yu Gardens a while back.
T- it’s like being on a tropical island
Peter- cheers, it’s a Canon A540, film filter in Gimp. When are you planning to leave a gushing podcast review on iTunes?
WoAi- no, that was the 人山
I think you’re splitting hairs James.
We’re sub-tropical, thank you very much.
I am genuinely looking into a weekend in HKG anyway, either there or Seoul- it’s about the same price for some reason.
I wonder why is it so crowded wherever you go lately…is it because perhaps just maybe and possibly coincidentally that you are in CHINA? Come to Canada, it’s never crowded here! :D
I’m in Manila this week. Sir.
Makes Shanghai look like an episode of Paradise Island.
Sir.
ps- typing this from Starbucks in Makati, the security guard, who is also the guy clearing the coffee cups, has a real gun. and a fancy badge.
(no poor people are allowed into Starbucks here…)
so it’s not all bad…Sir.
love the light in that middle picture :)
hey james
just saw your page on thats shanghai, and seriously. THAT WAS REALLY FUNNY.
I really laughed out loud in coffeebean when I read that you get pioritizing seats when you’re bald, hahahahha, that was so funny.
Good stuff!

Maybe next week, try Delhi. Ah, second thoughts maybe not…

Strangely enough I never realised that there was a website behind the blog. Oh the joy of discovery! I’ll be stalking around it all week, searching for information to use against you in the future.
ana- thanks, those guys thought I was a weirdo but the picture came out pretty well
baltic- in an average Phillipines Starbucks, how many cover bands are singing Hotel California?
Shoppers- thanks! Feel free to write to the editor and tell him
Tina- still haven’t been to India but I hear it’s bonkers
David- is your comment on WoAi’s blog something about my site?
Yes James you’re so funny on That’s Shanghai so why isn’t your blog funny at all?
I think this blog is funny! I really do!
what’s on that’s shanghai??
WoAi- you can’t expect me to keep up that kind of high-quality humour, they only brought out Friends episodes once per week you know.
Jeff- it’s my magazine column, look out for a copy in all good bars and restaurants! (and some of the bad ones too)
Shopgirl loved Seoul….it’s her favourite city.
