I was run over by a moped on the pavement/sidewalk on Shanxi Nan Lu a few years back. The instant karma factor of it was that as he made his escape, cackling to himself, he ran straight into the railings on the side, this breaking bits of his bike off. How I laughed…

Talking about Santana…

The Santana 2000, to be fair, must rank as one of the worst “car experiences” I have ever had.

However, the (years before its time) leather seats, it’s e-windows, fm radio, and general *aura* does actually count for a lot. It’s got character. If only the *suspension* had worked when I was in it (..but hey…after 10 years+…)?

I only wished I had lost my virginity in one, which would have been an achievement judging by how the suspension has lasted on these things…

N.B. Hey-when is the Santana 4000 out…Can’t wait…

Dingle, thanks for the heads up on the link. I completely missed that. What a sorry mess that would have been. Now I am up to speed on the issue and still laughing. Gotta love China.

As for the Santana, I thought every second car in Shanghai was a Santana and like Model T, they are mostly black.

Can’t wait for the Billie Jean Ukelele tribute – Awesome!

BTW: I saw a very large Harley Davidson on the road the other day – or was that a mirage?

David- I would guess that for every 3 cars on the streets of Shanghai- 1 of them is a Volkswagen Santana. And so are the other 2.

Billie Jean Ukulele is on the list for this weekend, right up there with “go on drinking binge”.

Bizarrely, there is someone called James Vauxhall-Santana on Facebook. (You couldn’t make it up.)

There is a Volkswagen Santana (another name for a Passat apparently), so the systery is molved.

(Completely off topic, but with Jacko’s demise you’re pretty much obliged to do Billy Jean Ukulele now.)

Miss Jane – Motorcycles are not banned in Shanghai. In fact there are many of them acting as taxis around rush hour it’s the fastest way to get home from work. They’re banned from Huai Hai Road but so are bicycles and scooters. Maybe that’s what you’re thinking of.
