Outside is the new fridge
In these credit-crunch, eco-aware days, can you really justify keeping your fridge on throughout the Winter? The temperature outside is about the same as a fridge anyway, so we’ve started keeping all of our milk, beer, wine etc. outside on the balcony to save the planet.
(Also the fridge is broken).
The only trouble is that when the Ayi comes to do some cleaning, she thinks we’ve gone mad and brings it all inside again.
Imagine then, how justified we felt when we went to a high-class restaurant on Tuesday, and they were doing it too.
See Ayi! We’re as sane as ever.

Seems so nice that they keep the meat outside in the “fresh” air..! ..although its worse when they do it in the summer!
Are you sure this isn’t some art installation Swiss? was it on Moganshan Lu by any chance?
oh yum – smoked duck dusted with soot and diesel fumes, must be a Shanghaiese delicacy.
I prefer my Tsing Daos colder than balcony temperatures tho!
Dingle- art installation- hmm I didn’t think about that.
Colin, Tsing Dao? I think you mean a gallon of G&T from what I’ve seen! Anyway the fridge is broken. :(
Karen- the butcher at the back of my apartment has the meat out in the summer. Pork too, it can’t be good for you can it?
James – That’s just what happens to customers who complain about the food. I hope you tipped well.
I guess they’re off the hook when it comes to health and safety.
it’s smart, why spend energy when you can store it outside?
it’s not the temperature i’m worried about . . . it’s the bugs. but i guess if it’s just canned goods (like beer) it’s okay.
(though it almost never gets cold enough here to justify that kind of behaviour – i’ve got the AC running now.)
They hang it outside for extra flavoring into the meat! :p
We’ve had a beautiful weather this weekend in Shanghai. You better check that milk tomorrow before you eat your corn flakes, or you might spend the whole day in the office WC.
No milk in the cornflakes, just Baileys, or so I hear. ;)
