I would rather cry in a BMW
When people talk about modern Shanghai girls they’re usually saying bad things: shallow, gold-digging, high-maintenance, manipulative etc.
I don’t have any direct experience, but I think the fact that this t-shirt is fashionable says a lot:
N.B. the Santana is a pretty basic Volkswagen model, it’s the most common car in Shanghai

I had to cry and laugh when I saw this shoddy typeset. Even the auto setting in Word can do it better.
Swiss James on 02 Jul 2008 at pm #
that’s what you thought when you saw this shirt?!!
Swiss James on 02 Jul 2008 at pm #
testing testing (WoAi said this was broken)
WoAi on 02 Jul 2008 at pm #
Personally I think a Helvetica font would work better or any other sans serif typeface, perhaps Haettenschweiler.
Neil on 02 Jul 2008 at pm #
I’ve got one that says ‘I’d rather get bummed in a Hummer, than get sucked off in a Seat’. I haven’t really.
WoAi on 02 Jul 2008 at pm #
I’d rather get licked in a Lexus than poked in a Porsche or fellated in a Fiat, the possibilities are endless!

i rather eat ritter sport than lindt

Helevitica is tasteful for any situation, but for this, I like Verdana.

James: Well if you must know, at first I pondered the dichotomy between moral values of different socio-economic classes in a rapidly changing, increasingly commercialized society. Then I noticed the layout and had a flashback to WordArtâ„¢ circa 1996. Worse than a vet who went to Nam, let me tell you.
shopgirl: Does that make you low maintenance or just non-foodie?
dingle on 02 Jul 2008 at pm #
I’m pleased that they used justified text though
Mackers on 02 Jul 2008 at pm #
Now that Shopgirl’s back in town, all you blokey bloggers are covering nothing but fashion!
Where’s the techie stuff we’ve all come to know and love? Thought you were all a race of Jeremy Clarksons?
Next you’ll all be carrying your girlfriends’ Louis Vuitton knock-off handbags.
So how ARE the turtles??? No news is good news?

It’s a full on metro standoff between Swiss and Woai, once that lace gauntlet was thrown down there was no stopping them, it will be murses at dawn next!
Andy on 02 Jul 2008 at pm #
Woai is basically Shopboy and James has Shoe Tuesday …
… talking of which, I saw so many classic ST subjects in the past few days but I didn’t have the balls to pull out the camera and snap them - it would have been so obvious. I was at the new Boona on Huaihai Lu, it has a nice deck out front.
So, on one of the other tables was a super suave 40’s ish local business guy on his day off. He had a sleek laptop and was sipping a herbal tea, his other hand pecking the keyboard and showing off his slim gold watch. His hair was closely cropped with designer shades resting on his brow, across the table - his beautiful girlfriend. He had on a cream coloured shirt and matching canvas pants.
Then he stood up to pay the bill revealing his banana yellow fake crocs complete with built in kitty stickers on the toe area.

Why would you cry in a BMW? Is there a lot of joyriding over there?
Shanghai Ninja on 03 Jul 2008 at am #
that is atrocious. and funny at the same time. but then again, props to whoever designed that shirt. At least there is no Engrish in sight. would have been a far worse shirt if it said:
sunny yet blue day my good friend, let we togeher* cry in bmw
dam* the santana
*obviously mispelled on purpose.
does anyone want to buy this shirt?
Swiss James on 03 Jul 2008 at am #
I can vouch that WoAi’s shopboy stance is not a recent innovation- he’s like that in real life. Why only last night he was in the garden of Sasha’s showing all and sundry photos of a Ruby studded belt buckle on his top-end Nokia phone, which lives in an alligator-skin hip holster.
Mackers: stay tuned for some heartwarming turtle news- including their official naming ceremony.
Andy- “banana yellow fake crocs complete with built in kitty stickers on the toe area”
Man alive, I look forward to the day when humanity wakes up from this nightmare and piles of Crocs are burning in the streets
(except the dark grey and brown ones which are OKish)
Shanghai Ninja- my graphics department is knocking that up for you as we speak.
Scarletti- I pray you never find out
shopgirl on 03 Jul 2008 at pm #
I wear pink crocs because they are so darn comfortable.
Will wear them going to Bar Rouge this weekend, then I can dance for hours
Swiss James on 03 Jul 2008 at pm #
Quite right shoppers. In fact if you’re going for comfort, why stop there?
I say go for it - wear flannel pajamas, your horrible pink crocs, big granny underwear and take a cushion with you.
tinaraia on 03 Jul 2008 at pm #
haha i can picture 60 year old ladies wearing this whilst fanning their baby grandkids in the park
ps. i also dissagree with crocs
shopgirl on 03 Jul 2008 at pm #
i will, i wonder if i will get in for free as usual?
Neil on 03 Jul 2008 at pm #
Crocs are for retired people/utter cunts
WoAi on 03 Jul 2008 at pm #
Neil I’d agree with you. Except the part about retired people!
Shanghai Ninja on 04 Jul 2008 at am #
If I retire today, I will stop wearing clothes. I have got nothing to lose.
