THE AIRPORT IS OPEN! THE AIRPORT IS OPEN! THE AIRPORT IS OPEN! THE AIRPORT IS OPEN! THE AIRPORT IS OPEN! THE AIRPORT IS OPEN! THE AIRPORT IS OPEN! THE AIRPORT IS OPEN! THE AIRPORT IS OPEN! THE AIRPORT IS OPEN!

So last night/this morning at about 3:30 Terminal 2 at Pudong airport started working its magic. First passenger in at 6:30, first flight a little after 7.

I’ve been working on this since about March 2006 so it’s good to have the thing actually running now, and with not much fuss at the final push either (it’s been a constant slow panic since last summer mind you).

Here’s a couple of pics, I’m off for a couple of pints.

A ping-pong lesson with Grandma

Ah that one child policy. All of your hopes and dreams invested in one little shiny-eyed kid who wants to watch cartoons instead of hitting the books / track.

No doubt some of these kids spend their weekends being frogmarched to Chess academies, dragged to after-school Maths classes, or stretched on a mechanical rack to reach Yao Ming proportions. It must be tough to be the only roll of the dice.

A ping-pong lesson
No pressure

This was nice to see though; Mum, Grandma, Grandad all helping the little one out with her backhand on a Saturday evening- smiles all round.

[A couple of minutes after this photo was taken, junior fluffed a top-spin smash and they beat her mercilessly with a specially varnished paddle. They were quite right to do so, it was a very easy shot.]
