Drinking in the snow
Bit of a heavy weekend this one. Sae-Jin, my mate from Korea was visiting; drinking ensued.
On Friday night we ate at a duck restaurant which is so famous it gets a mention in my Chinese text book. Quan Ju De on HuaiHai Lu is one of a chain of restaurants (most of them in Beijing, home of the doomed duck)- and they certainly do a lovely bird.
Since it was raining, however, we couldn’t get a taxi for love nor money (and believe me, we were prepared to offer both) so ended up walking all of the way from the restaurant to the pub- pausing only for a pint of ale and four B52s to keep the cold out.
We spent the rest of the night in the Eager Beaver, and (after a cocktail tour of TMSK, People 7 and Arch) ended up back there again on Saturday night. Learning from mistakes made the previous day though, Craig had thoughtfully provided a selection of hats for the long wait for a taxi.

GENIUS hats! See you baggsied the pink one.
Is Mrs Swiss mugging Sae-jin because he didn’t bring her a hat?
“Mrs Swiss” (hehe, I like that) was wearing shoes made out of wicker in a blizzard. Does that seem sensible to you Mr Seoulcialist?
You’re asking me? In Korea? In the land of the wicker shoe? Still wellies might have been more sensible. So in the past year you’ve had typhoons and blizzards. When is the plague of frogs?
And what’s this in the news? China building another 100 airports? Are they ever going to let you out of the country?
Really? You like QuanJuDe? I find it rather ordinary - as with most “famous” Chinese restaurants (Shanghai’s own YuYuan Gardens Xiaolongbao spot is included in this assesment.)
you guys look like the wiggles….
or maybe not…

James you won’t be seen dead carrying a man bag but ……
Sae-jin was that far away from Seoul and not crying and trying to get a taxi home in the middle of the night??? Surely not!
hi,helen. how have u been doing?
I was acting like an independent man in Shanghai.
If you can’t believe it, ask MR.Swiss.^^
Of course, I didn’t want to get a taxi home because I feel that way only when I’m in the freaky province out of Seoul.^^
Sorry I failed you Saturday night, the shed was rocking, but sounds like you managed to have a good night.
Time for Teletubbies…
brilliant hats! did mr wiggins know he had poo on his head?
Hi Sae Jin- I understand but I didn’t realise that you were comfortable in all cities. It is good to see your lovely smile on James’ blog again. Love to all you Seoul people!
Quan Ju De is the only duck restaurant I know in Shanghai, if there are better ones out there- let me know and I’ll definitely check em out! It’s still a nice place for visitors anyway, all of the waitresses in funny hats etc.
Missbels- SaeJin was very independent in Shanghai, he had to be because I was at a wedding all day and he had the wrong phone number for me. And I can confirm he didn’t freak out once (except when I showed him my beanbag frog and he screamed like a girl)
TWG/Jin- the ladies love those cartoon characters. You two need to get with the program
LordLunchy- no probs, we didn’t know whether the hats would go down well in the shed so stuck in the Beaver
I always thought one of their duck statues (do they still have them?) would make a good drunk trophy….better than a road cone anyway…
