conways bar

After the confetti had cleared, I went with a few friends to a cottage in Letterkenny, County Donnegal, Oirland.

It was a lovely place filled with all kinds of bizarre Catholic trinkets- Jesus -on-the-cross night lights, statues of Saint Bernadette watching you do the washing up, the lot.

We stayed until New Year’s Day and spent the all important 2007/2008 midnight moment in Conway’s Bar- a tiny little place with a thatched roof and crackers on the table.

Sadly they didn’t have one of those fiddle-dee bands, in fact nowhere in the little town we were in seemed to be doing the traditional irish music- all of the kids are into Country & Western these days apparently, but we had a grand time all the same.

(”Grand” is what they say in Ireland instead of “right good”, I don’t know why- they’re a funny lot.)
